Tata Motors has finally launched the eagerly anticipated “Racer,” a sportier variant of the Altroz, in India. There are three variants of the performance hatchback available: R1, R2, and R3. The base-spec R1 variant carries an ex-showroom price of Rs 9.49 lakh, while the top-spec R3 variant retails for Rs 10.99 lakh. The mid-spec R2 is available for purchase at Rs 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom). As far as the paint jobs are concerned, there are three dual-tone options: Atomic Orange, Avenue White, and Pure Grey. The bookings for the model are underway for a token amount of Rs 21,000.
The Tata Altroz Racer’s exterior design has been previewed through images and video sneak peeks ahead of its official debut. This variant boasts a bold, athletic aesthetic thanks to notable design upgrades. Its appearance closely mirrors the concept version, characterized by a dark-finish bonnet and roof, paired with a two-tone color scheme. Distinctive twin white stripes adorn the roof, boot, and bonnet of the hatchback.
Additionally, the updated model features revamped, sharp-edged alloy wheels that exude a more dynamic look, complemented by a “Racer” emblem on the fender.
Key Features of Tata Altroz Racer
The Racer variant of the Altroz offers a range of features, such as a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android digital display for the instrument cluster, an air purifier, heated front seats, wireless charging, and sunroof. The interior is enhanced with orange accents and ambient lighting, while the sporty feel is highlighted by the black upholstery with orange and white stripes and “Racer” branding on the headrests. In terms of safety, the hatchback includes six airbags, a blind spot monitor, and a 360-degree camera for added protection.
Tata Altroz Racer: Powertrain Options
To set the Altroz Racer apart from the standard model, it has several performance improvements as well. The Racer version is propelled by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 170Nm of peak torque and 118bhp of maximum power, just like the Nexon SUV. The transmission option comes in the form of a six-speed manual. The Tata Altroz Racer will go head-to-head with the Hyundai i20 N Line, a high-performance variant in its segment. While there aren’t many direct competitors in the Indian market, with models like the Volkswagen Polo and Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS still unavailable, the Altroz Racer will face strong opposition from the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, both of which boast 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines.
